Wards of the Mayor

200-wardsBowling Green, Ohio is home to many weird and wonderful things: the National Tractor Pulling Championships, some kickass wind turbines, Olympic figure skater Scott Hamilton, and a lawn game called cornhole (fer serious). In late 2008, this flat, snow-covered college town became the site of the origins of the mighty Wards of the Mayor, a four-piece rock band whose quirks fit naturally with BG’s own. Boasting more OCD than you can shake a stick at and a bassist whose beard would be the envy of even the curmudgeonly Karl Marx, Wards of the Mayor is a band that is very serious about being fairly silly.
Imagine an afterlife where past sins are punished through a tedious regimen of civic bureaucracy. Wards of the Mayor’s songs all revolve around the denizens of this world and the spectral inhabitants of a small town called May Star. The songs you’re hearing now are about the murderous mayor himself, a man who cannot die, and the ghost of a mad scientist. Yes, it’s as weird as it sounds. Check out the WotM Dorkipedia on our blog (copehhhh & paste the url! wardsofthemayor.blogspot.com) if you’d like to know more (or make fun of us).
Half of the four Wards are Ohio natives (Isaac and John), and the other half are southern transplants (Rebekah and Will). Various Wards are grad students, comic nerds, former band nerds, laid-off newspaper reporters, and part-time librarians. The Wards have been known to enjoy a good malt beverage or, failing that, a good hobo joke. However, the Wards are upstanding grown-ups who try to recycle and always floss. (John drinks a glass of milk with every meal.)
We invite you to listen to our songs, come to our shows, and be our friends! (Our moms are trying really hard to get us to make more friends.) (from myspace.com/wardsofthemayor)
