The Grossly Misjudged Collective Works of Barry’s Listening
Twenty years too late to be considered retro-passé. The Grossly Misjudged Collective Works of Barry’s Listening armed themselves with mundane banality. How they survived the cold winds of Barrow, Alaska for as long as they did is amazing. (Then Howie survived? I’m afraid not.) …Barry’s Listening was an experiment in the futility of wasted efforts, unfinished material, and thinly veiled anonymity. Named partially as an homage to a passing line in a forgotten scene in a silly film, The Grossly Misjudged Collective Works of Barry’s Listening was misjudged, though probably not grossly, collective, and listening, but only rarely did it work. Sadly, an announcement was made in the Summer of 2008 that A) there was a “Barry” in The Grossly Misjudged Collective Works of Barry’s Listening and B) he was due to die in the coming months thereby ending the collective endeavor. The announcement read, “Yes, it is true that we are preparing to say good-bye to Barry as it has been seen clairvoyantly that he will surely not survive the summer and will fall to his death in a tragic and heroic manner. We are sad to see him go at such a young age, but we are glad to see him join the ranks of other such ‘candles in the wind’ as the Big Bopper and William Henry Harrison.” |
